Mecos Films emerged as a direct challenge to the hegemony of Anglo-European and American gay pornography. Scholars argue that Mecos' work was a deliberate form of cultural resistance. While foreign gay porn often caricatured or exoticized Latin men with stereotypical tropes, Mecos Films aimed to create a space where Mexican gay men could see themselves reflected authentically.
