The film was produced and directed by Anurag Kashyap, known for his gritty and realistic style. He co-wrote the script with Zeishan Quadri, drawing from the latter's experiences growing up in the region. Kashyap was inspired to make the film after witnessing the real-life coal mafia and its deep-rooted influence in the Dhanbad area. To ensure authenticity, the cast and crew used local dialects and shot extensively in the coal-mining regions of Jharkhand.
